Bastrop County workers bury diesel, paint in yard

During operation "Clean Sweep," Bastrop County workers collected hazardous waste, i.e., diesel fuel, oil and paint, from Bastrop county residents. The purpose is to provide for a way for residents to properly dispose of hazardous waste, rather than just dumping it on the ground or something. Once the wasted was collected, Bastrop County considered what to do with it. Answer: dig a hole and bury it in the back.

So they did.

And the State of Texas found out. Now, after digging up a dumpster full of dirt and thousands of dollars in clean up, the State is training Bastrop County workers on how to properly dispose of waste. Hint: It does not include dumping it into a dirt hole in your backyard.

Doh!

No word on whether the State will prosecute.
